I had my new bike 2 days and had done 4 miles on it before this day. What better way to get used to a road bike, the shifting, clippie pedals, and the seat (oh, such a hard seat). I signed up for a 100k (62 miles). Before the race I heard it was increased to 70 miles for safety. Well, it turned out to be more like 76 miles. 76 when a person is ready for 62 can be a huge difference.
When I started the race I had a delusion that maybe I could do the 110. If I could do 60 on a mountain bike why not? Right? Somewhere coming up to the 30 mile mark my whole body hurt and I really didn’t like that new seat! There was no way I was going to do more than 100k. When all was done I felt “okay” at the finish line. Rode lots of hills and saw some nice scenery. Since this time I have gotten quite used to the new seat.
I think they said there were about 450 riders. That was quite cool to start with all people.
Self portrait somewhere close to Grand Lake in Oklahoma. I was being safe, really!
